![]() He was really interested in it, but persuaded me that the concept was not a record, and asked whether I would consider approaching it another way. I eventually recorded a demo of much of the material and played it for lots of people, including Nigel Godrich who mixed my last project, Roger Waters: The Wall. It was a long complex story about an old Irish bloke whose grandchild has a nightmare about children being killed “over there.” The grandfather promises the child that they will go on a quest to find out who and why they are killing children. I had written a narrative and quite few songs for something I envisioned as a play for radio. What motivated you to record your new album? It’s your first album of original rock-oriented material in almost two decades. Waters runs deep, and as our conversation unfolds, he speaks often about the “transcendental nature of love” and even refers to himself as “an optimist.” On his new album, he may sing that “fear drives the mills of modern man,” but three uplifting songs that finish Is This the Life We Really Want? hold out hope that love and compassion can ultimately save the day. He is pissed, yes, but he’s far from one dimensional. What does that have to do with their life? He doesn’t care about their life! He just wants his taxes down to 15 percent.” “It has to be difficult for anybody who voted for him to swallow that he is trying to reduce corporate taxes to 15 percent. He doesn’t give a shit about anybody and makes it quite clear. “Trump is entirely clear that he is out to fuck everybody except Trump. “Because of the nincompoop and the current broken political system, it is demanded of every citizen of the United States to decide whether they are going to resist this or go along with it,” he says quietly, yet firmly. At the same time, he’s not afraid to explicitly express his opinion. ![]() Soft spoken, thoughtful and not afraid to laugh at his own foibles, he is a smart and considerate conversationalist. Given the bold and uncompromising nature of his work, one might assume that the real Roger Waters might be an aggressive interview, but the person I meet is nothing of the sort. ![]() Firm culture also includes company values, rules, and conduct with customers, business partners, suppliers, and stakeholders thus, employees are conscious of their firm’s values and rules of conduct during their business activities ( Nadanyiova and Durana 2019).įundamentally, Denison ( 1990) showed that cultural and administrative behavior arises from the beliefs and assumptions of the firm and its environment ( Denison 1990), which are related to firm performance ( Denison and Mishra 1995). Similarly, a firm’s culture is the key to preserving its competitive advantage, which also integrates innovation, teamwork, response to the market, and the satisfaction of customers ( Nazariana et al. Therefore, organizational culture arises from the habitual practices shared by an organization’s members ( De Mooij and Hofstede 2011). Organizational culture is grounded in common practices, where employees adopt behaviors according to the symbols, heroes, and rituals that the firm represents, such as changes in the productivity and satisfaction of workers ( Rossi et al. 2010), showing that organizational culture communicates the identity of the firm’s members ( Cheung et al. Furthermore, it involves the collective mental programming of the members of a firm because it analyzes the members’ identity as an integral, historical, and social phenomenon, which reflects the history of the firm ( Hofstede et al. 1991 Schein 1988), including customs, norms, rules, symbols, ideologies, beliefs, rituals, and myths ( Gallivan and Srite 2005 Lee et al. Organizational culture is defined as the set of differentiated elements between organizations ( Hofstede 1983 O’Reilly et al. The study analyzed the firm’s non-financial performance, including selection, training, evaluation, job stability, and others that have not been studied deeply in the Ecuadorian context. Denison ( 2003) proposed financial indicators as measures of organizational performance, while current research includes non-financial indicators as proxies for non-financial firm performance ( Triguero et al. Therefore, each firm must establish its own cultural characteristics to achieve a specific performance ( Denison and Mishra 1995). Denison and Mishra ( 1995) demonstrated that the relationship between organizational culture and firm performance depends on effectiveness measures. It suggests that an organization’s culture reflects cultural traits and administrative behaviors based on the beliefs and assumptions of the organization and its environment ( Denison 1990). ![]() Denison’s model (1990) is based on the attitudes of employees. Previous studies developed different models of organizational culture. Future research should include the characteristics of the studied firms to increase the effectiveness of the proposed model. This study provides a perspective on long-term organizational strategies, vision, and performance. Involvement is the critical determinant of the influence of organizational culture on corporate performance, while training shows the strongest association with organizational culture. Moreover, involvement, adaptability, consistency, and mission affect the non-financial performance of the Ecuadorian service sector. The findings reveal a statistically positive relationship between organizational culture and firm performance. The operational items of the questionnaire to measure organizational culture and corporate performance were designed using the Denison model. The respondents were working as managers or employees in small Ecuadorian service firms. ![]() The study employs four organizational culture features and twelve concepts for corporate performance using a self-designed online questionnaire, which were supplied to postgraduate students from academic programs at Universidad de Las Americas (UDLA) in Quito, Ecuador. This study examines how organizational culture influences corporate performance in the Ecuadorian service sector. I think we have to overcome those things and just understand that loving yourself is more important than anything. All of my life situations brought me to the point where I was at…but I think we as human beings all have to overcome something. Whether it be an addiction to social media, addiction to pills…anything, we can be addicted to people too. So that’s why I started smoking. My grandpop was an alcoholic that’s what made me become an alcoholic and made me want to pick up drinking. My pops and my mom smoked cigarettes when I was very young. Those were the things that I was addicted to those were the things that were in my life. We have to overcome something, and those were some of the things I had to overcome. My life situations brought me to that point. ![]() ![]() Zenger: Would you say too much too fast is why you fell into those traps? Or do you feel that was something within you that money and fame brought out? Jones: I think born into this world we all have to go through it. I don’t pay attention to things that don’t mean anything to me anymore. Anything you pay attention to is something that has a hold on you. I’m free from all of those things that were addictions for me! Negative thoughts come, but I don’t pay attention to them anymore. All those things, man, just fell away. I’m not interested in those things any longer. I used to smoke marijuana on a regular everyday basis. I’m in the green now as well as I used to think negatively. ![]() I paid everybody back all the money they said I owed them. So, I’m free. Why is Donell Jones 100% Free now? Jones: Well, I can say that I don’t have any contracts. Zenger: Your upcoming album is titled ‘100% Free!’ That’s a compelling and profound title. Not only am I singing about something that I have been through, but I’m still feeling the emotions of it when I’m trying to deliver it on record. Jones: Every song I always write is based on my personal experience. Because I feel like, if I’m going through it, then I know other people in the world are going through it, and not only that, when I’m singing it, I can give it the type of emotion it needs because it was my life. Zenger: Absolutely! I was bugged out when I found out ‘Where I Wanna Be’ was a real-life situation for you. One thing about music, man, is we’re always going to be in relationships out there, but ain’t nobody talking about what they are going through. So, I feel like there is a street that ain’t nobody driving on, and an artist like myself can just drive on that street by myself and just have a lane to myself and an artist like me. And our stuff was mostly based on relationships with one person. We had a couple of swagged-out records, but for the most part, it was mostly about love, makeups and breakups, and all things that happen in relationships. I think that’s what makes our generation of music a little bit different. Today they talk about how much money they got, how many chicks they are going to get into the bed. I think the difference between the R&B of yesteryear and today is the fact that our subject matter was different. We talked about love a little bit more. you got people like Ella Mai, a lot of youngsters out there doing it. It’s like a hybrid right now. But true R&B, I don’t think it will ever die. Jones: I feel like R&B can never die. I feel like the lines are blurred right now between the youngsters doing their thing. Zenger: Do you see a void in what is deemed real R&B music? And when will we see a Donell Jones record or a case record? So we know we can expect that void to be filled. We’re not holding anything back, and we’re going to give it to them in the raw, and that’s how I approached it. My family asked me, ‘Do you want me to talk about this?’ I was like, ‘Man, ya’ll just keep it 100 and tell the truth. I just felt like…I didn’t know I was going to get the opportunity to do it, but I said, ‘If I ever do this show, I’m going to let it all out because if I’m going through it, maybe my story can help somebody else.’ And I just wanted to be 100% real. You know why? I had watched that ‘Unsung’ show a few times with artists on there. ![]() It is critical to note that despite the wild themes and happenings in the play, a structure does exist and a plot does move forward. Like most works of The Theatre of the Absurd, Rhinoceros explores issues of chaos while it manages to arrive at a clear message about that chaos. It further combines whimsical humor with unsettling tragedy to question human nature at the most fundamental level. Its plot is not traditional but theoretical, featuring philosophical conversations and questions throughout. Its imaginative scope is both broad and wild: people grow horns, sprout fur, and become rhinoceroses. In other ways, Rhinoceros typifies Ionesco's work and, more generally, the Theatre of the Absurd. If fascism makes rhinos, how much better are the alternatives after all? Beyond this symbol of the effects of fascism, critics have understood the play as part of the post-World War II body of literature that questions the motivations not only of war but of life itself. More than any of his other plays, in Rhinoceros Ionesco uses a specific symbol in a central, clear, and compelling way. In 1973, a film adaptation, starring Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel, won critical acclaim as well.įirst produced at the Odeon and directed by Jean-Louis Barrault, Rhinoceros imagines fascism as a disease that turns humans into unintelligent, violent creatures-rhinoceroses. Though he had written several plays by Rhinoceros in 1959, the English translation of the play caught both public and critical attention around the world. ![]() Rhinoceros catapulted Ionesco's career to an international level. |
